WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS?
Essential oils are extractions from aromatic plants, herbs, seeds, fruits, resins, woods, roots, leaves, berries, and flowers, and are known as the "life-force" or "living essence" of raw aromatic plant material.
To give you an idea of just how much raw plant material it requires to yield 1 pound of essential oil, you'll need 50 lb. of Eucalyptus, 150 lb. of Lavender, 500 lb. of Rosemary and 1 Ton of Rose petals to yield 1 pound of essential oil of each!
Used medicinally by ancient cultures, essential oils were considered highly valuable, with certain oils thought to be more valuable than gold. Today, modern science continues to rediscover what some cultures have known for centuries: oils have revitalizing, energizing, and therapeutic powers. When pure, they are highly concentrated and can be far more potent than dried herbs. The name of "oils" is rather a misnomer since they are not oily; they contain hormones, chemicals, minerals and vitamins.

Essential oils are quite fragile as they vary from crop to crop. Chemically very complex, essential oils consist of hundreds of different chemical compounds. For this reason single oils can help a wide variety of disorders. Consider two of the many benefits of essential oils:
Penetration:
Essential oils have a minute molecular structure that gives them the ability to penetrate cell membranes quickly and diffuse rapidly throughout the blood and tissues. When you apply oils to your skin, the benefits can affect your body in a matter of minutes. Inhaling the aroma of the oils also allows the molecules to enter the bloodstream through capillaries in the lungs, giving you all the health benefits of essential oils.

Immune Defense:
Essential oils have properties that make them ideal for healing and stimulating immune defense. Essential oils work as the chemical defense mechanism of the plant, with their potent antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. They contain chemicals that work as hormones to bring balance to many physiological systems of the human body. Oils like Peppermint for instance has a very soothing effect and is good for indigestion, stomach aches and headaches.
What is a Carrier Oil?
Carrier oils are derived from vegetables, fruits, seeds or nuts. They are used prior to the application of the essential oils so to somewhat dilute the essential oil and help prevent irritation of the skin. Carrier oils are safe to apply directly to the skin. Olive, safflower, sesame, jojoba, and sweet almond oils are just a few examples of carrier oils.
Why Choose Young Living Essential Oils?
Most of the oils on the market in the United States are 4th and 5th quality oils. Many were originally produced for the perfume industry where they are distilled quickly at high pressure and high temperatures, fracturing the oil molecule and destroying the therapeutic qualities. Because inferior quality oils are unlikely to give therapeutic benefits and could be toxic, it is important to know that your essential oils are undiluted, unadulterated, and absolutely pure. Nestled against the placid Mona, Utah Reservoir and surrounded by scenic mountain ranges, the Young Living Herb Farms carefully cultivates 1,600 acres of organic herbs-free from pesticides, herbicides, and other harmful chemicals. When the herbs are freshly harvested, they are distilled in a proprietary system with low pressure and low temperature to preserve the delicate healing properties of the oils.
Young Living guarantees that all of our essential oils are of the highest-grade therapeutic quality. Every batch of oil is quarantined, inspected, and tested for purity and quality in chemical analyses. Altogether, Young Living oils can go through five separate levels of quality analysis before they are released.
